National Institute of Malaria Research (NIMR) was established in 1977 as "Malaria Research Centre", which was renamed as "National Institute of Malaria Research" recently in November 2005.
NIMR is one of the institutes of the Indian Council of Medical Research (an autonomous body under Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India).
The primary task of the institute is to find short term as well as long term solutions to the problems of malaria through basis, applied and operational field research.
The Institute also plays a key role in manpower resource development through trainings / workshops and transfer of technology.
The major areas of research carried out over the years are on mosquito fauna surveys, development of genetic and molecular markers for important malaria vectors and parasites, cytotaxonomic studies identifying major vectors as species complexes and laboratory and field studies to examine the biological variations among sibling species, development of molecular identification techniques for sibling species, monitoring of insecticide resistance through space and time, preparation of action plans, etc. have yielded valuable information.
Field evaluation of new insecticides, biolarvicides, insecticide - impregnated bed nets, drugs and parasite diagnostic kits have provided new armament to malaria control.
Many of these have found place in national malaria control program.
NIMR has a network of well developed laboratories at Delhi carrying out research on all aspects of malaria along with 10 field stations in malarious areas, which serve as testing ground for new technologies and help in the transfer of technologies.
Qualification & Experience:
Essential:
Postgraduate degree in medical subjects recognized by MCI or Doctorate Degree in Life / Biological Sciences or relevant biological subjects or statistics from a recognized university or equivalent.
Fifteen years research experience in the area of Vector Borne diseases especially Malaria.
Desirable:
Additional Post doctoral research or teaching experience in relevant subjects after Ph.D.
Knowledge of Computer Applications.

The incumbent is expected to be a visionary, aware of contemporary research being carried out globally, be aware of Governments policies on health and health research and work closely with the State and Central Government, have experience in priority setting and planning, with working knowledge of computer applications, has ability to lead the Institute, should have a quest for excellence reflected by awards, prizes, fellowships etc.
conferred by professional bodies, posses proven track record for securing research grants through competitive bidding at national and International level, have administrative experience at mid-level management position, excellent scientific communication skills (verbal and written) as evidenced by presentations made and papers published at National and International level as first author, and should have conducted good quality original research as evidenced by publications in indexed scientific journals.
Age:
Preferably below 50 years. Relaxable up to 5 years for Government servants in accordance with the instructions issued by the Department of Personnel and Training from time to time in this regard. SC / ST / OBC are also allowed relaxation as per Central Government Rules, in force.
Allowances as per Central Government Rules are admissible on the above pay scale.
Benefit of new restructured defined Contributory Pension system are admissible as per the provision contained in the Ministry of Finance, Department of Economic Affairs (ECB & PR Division).
Private practice is not allowed. However, non - practicing allowances is admissible to medical graduates only as per rules.
