SGPGIMS invites applications for the following 2 posts of Research Scientists for its “Specialized Center for Stem Cell Based Therapy” sponsored by DBT, Govt. of India (Coordinator: Prof. AK Mahapatra, Director, and Principal Investigator: Prof. S. Nityanand, HOD, Hematology).

All rules applied to the Institute faculty members will be applicable to these posts and the services of the incumbent will be merged with Institute as suitable faculty positions on or before expiry of the DBT support, subject to the satisfactory performance.

Post 1: Research Scientist-Stem Cell Biology.

Essential Qualifications: PhD in Biological Sciences from a recognized University/Institute with three-year research experience at a recognized Institute/organization after obtaining the PhD degree.

Desirable Qualifications: Experience in following areas:

• (i) Basic and Immunobiology of stem cells,
• Isolation, culture and in vitro expansion of stem cells,
• Stem cell processing under GMP/GLP conditions
• In vitro manipulation of stem cells, and
• Genetic engineering of stem cells.

Job responsibilities: Basic and translational research in stem cell biology including generation of stem cells under GLP/GMP conditions for pre-clinical and clinical therapies and study of characteristics of different stem cell types for the development of new stem cell based therapies.

Post 2: Research Scientist-Pre-clinical Stem Cell Therapy.

Essential Qualifications: PhD in Veterinary Sciences/Pharmacology or MD in Pharmacology from a recognized University/Institute with three-year research experience at a recognized Institute/organization after obtaining the PhD/MD degree.

Desirable Qualifications: Practical knowledge of handling small/large animals and experience in the following areas:

• Stem cell therapeutics in experimental animal models,
• Animal models of myocardial infarction/stroke/renal failure/diabetes/autoimmunity and
• Stem cell mobilization/ trafficking in experimental animals and
• Animal imaging.

Job responsibilities: Animal experimentation and imaging work including establishment of animal models of different diseases, evaluation of safety and efficacy of stem cell therapy in these models by animal imaging and other methods.

Pay Scale: Rs 11, 625-325-15, 850.

Upper Age Limit: Should not be more than 50 years as on 01.01.2008.
