Applications from Indian Nationals are invited for the post of Director who will be the Academic Head and Chief Executive Officer of the above Institute.

The Institute, a body corporate, is an Institution of National Importance established by an Act of Parliament under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Goverment, of India, and has the status of a University.

The Institute has currently a 239-bed modern speciality hospital for cardiology and neurology and a Biomedical Technology Wing for the development of biomaterials and medical devices. The Institute also has a School of Public Health, the Achutha Menon Centre for Health Science Studies.

The hospital has strong "supportive programmes in anaesthesiology, biochemistry, pathology and imaging sciences. The Biomedical Technology Wing has been instrumental in developing and successfully commercializing several medical devices and implants, maintains close liaison with health care industries, and provides medical device testing services, which is accredited by Cofrac, France as conforming to IS0 17025, to the industry.

The Institute offers post-graduate programmes leading to the award of the degrees such as DM, M.Ch, Ph.D, and MPH, and two post-graduate degree programmes in biomedical engineering jointly with IIT-Madras. The Institute has close to 900 staff, including the faculty.

Qualifications and Experience:

1. Medical qualification included in the 1st or 2nd schedule of the Indian Medical Council Act.
2. A High postgraduate qualification in any of the specialities of interest to the Institute.
3. Teaching and/or research experience of not less than 12 years in the subject of specialization after the prescribed post-graduate qualification.
4. 25 years' standing in the profession.

Desirable:

It is desirable that the applicant has an outstanding record of research in any branch of medical sciences as well as record of significant contribution to medical journalism.

A strong and demonstrated interest in the development and application of technology in the health related areas are also desirable.

The job demands management and administrative experience of a high order and ability to interact with highly competent professionals in medicine, technology and industry.

Age Limit: 60 years;

Salary: Rs.26,000/- (fixed)+ NPA of 25% of basic pay, but pay + DP + NPA does not exceed Rs.44250/- (Under revision) and allowances at Central Government rates. A staff car and furnished accommodation will be provided.

Note: Qualifications, experience, age limit, etc. are relaxable in exceptional cases.
