Applications are invited for the following positions in the Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP) given below:
Position No.1: Group IV (3), Scientist - EI (Biomolecule Prospection); (One post in the scale of Rs 12,000-375-16,500 (Unreserved)
a) Essential Qualification:
First class M.Sc. in the field of life sciences with experience in handling microbes and alternate biological models to substitute animal testing for biological activity evaluation using molecular genetics tools plus 7 years post degree experience on a research position in the relevant field for above work. OR Ph.D. in life sciences and specialization with 4 years of post - Ph.D. experience as above.
b) Desirable Qualification:
Ph.D. as above with research experience of working on animal substitute/ alternate biological models(s) like Drosophila / Nematode/ Yeast/ Bacteria/ cell lines etc as evident in publication/projects/ training in the area with hands on experience of working with molecular genetics tools.
c) Job Requirement:
Selected candidate will work with scientific team and develop projects in the area of bioprospection for drug discovery and searching new phytomolecules for industrial, agricultural and health care values using alternate biological models to substitute mammals in bioevaluation and activity screening tests.

Position No.2: Group IV (2), Scientist - C (Bioinformatics/ In silico Biology); One post in the scale of Rs 10,000-325-15,200 (Unreserved)
a) Essential Qualification:
First class M.Sc./B Tech in Bioinformatics/Biotechnology with 3 years post degree working experience in the field of Bioinformatics and Functional Genomics / Computational Biology/ In Silico Biology relevant to Metabolomics/ Biomolecule/ drug discovery research OR M. Tech in Bioinformatics/ Biotechnology with 2 years of post M. Tech experience in the field of Bioinformatics and Functional Genomics / Computational Biology/ In Silico Biology relevant to Metabolomics/ Biomolecule/drug discovery research OR Ph.D. with 1 year postdoctoral experience in the field of Bioinformatics and Functional Genomics / Computational Biology/ In Silico /Biology relevant to Metabolomics/ Biomolecule/ drug discovery research.
b) Desirable Qualification:
Ph.D./ M. Tech as above with hands on research experience in the area of genomics research through bioinformatics and In Silico approaches with proven ability in the above areas or experience in high performance computing in Biological Systems and Systems Biology/ Metabolomics/ Genome Informatics/ Data mining and Drug Target Identification as evident by Publications/ Projects undertaken/ Thesis.
c) Job Requirement:
The selected candidate will work with scientific team of Bioinformatics group for research projects of in silico modeling related to plant metabolomics and drug/ biomolcule prospection and functional genomics.
d) Age limit: 35 years
Position No. 3: Group IV (1), Scientist - B (Phytochemistry); (One post in the scale of Rs 8,000-275-13,500 (Unreserved)
a) Essential Qualification: First class M.Sc. in the field of Organic Chemistry or PhD in the same field.
b) Desirable Qualification:
Ph.D. as above with hands on experience in synthetic/ natural product chemistry with exposure to application of molecular modeling and combinatorial chemistry in research on bio -molecules as evident through publications/ projects/ Ph.D. thesis.
c) Job Requirement:
The selected candidate will be involved as scientific team member in projects related to synthesis of large number of compounds, derivatise them for biological screening, for drug discovery and QSAR studies using combinatorial chemistry and novel bioactives research.

Position No. 4: Group IV (1), Scientist-B (Plant Breeding); (One post in the scale of Rs 8,000-275-13,500 (Unreserved)
a) Essential Qualification:
First class M.Sc. in any field of Plants Sciences/ Agriculture with specialization in the area of plant breeding and genetics with experience in field application of biotechnological tools in plant breeding or Ph.D. as above.
b) Desirable Qualification: Ph.D. as above in the field of Plant Breeding or Genetics with working research experience in crop improvement using biotechnological tools as evident in publications/ projects/ Ph.D. thesis.
c) Job Requirement:
The selected candidate will be expected to participate as scientific team member in the projects related to genetic improvement of medicinal and aromatic plants using conventional as well as biotechnological tools in plant breeding.
d) Age limit: 35 years.
Position No. 5: Group IV (1), Scientist-B (Plant Molecular Biology); One post in the scale of Rs 8,000-275-13,500 (Unreserved)
a) Essential Qualification:
First class M.Sc. in the field of Molecular Biology/Biochemistry/ Biotechnology or Ph.D. in one of these fields under plant sciences/ agriculture discipline.
b) Desirable Qualification:
Ph.D. as above in plant Biotechnology/ Plant Molecular Biology with experience of working on plant molecular biology aspects including transgenics research as evident in publications/ projects/ Ph.D. thesis.
c) Job Requirement:
The selected candidate will be involved as scientific team member in the projects related to plant molecular biology research related to metabolomics, functional/structural genomics and transgenics research.
d) Age limit: 35 years
Position No. 6: Group IV (1), Scientist-B (Statistics and Computer Application); One post in the scale of Rs. 8,000-275-13,500 (Reserved for Orthopaedically Handicapped (OH) for unreserved (UR) candidate)
a) Essential Qualification:
First class MCA or M.Sc. in the field of Biological/Life Sciences or Agriculture with specialization in the field of statistics/ biometrics/ population biology/computer application in biological/ agriculture research or Ph.D. in any of the above areas.
b) Desirable Qualification:
Ph.D. in statistics or MCA (Agri/Biological fields) with experience of computer application and modern statistical analysis tools including programming and software development and experience in survey analysis, data interpretation and designing of experiments as evident in publications/ projects/ Ph.D. thesis.
c) Job Requirement:
The selected candidate will be expected to provide R&D support by undertaking the statistical / biometrical analysis of research data for its interpretation in developing high class technical reports and research publications. The candidate will also be involved in development of new softwares/ databases as per research needs of the institute.
d) Age limit: 35 years ( Upper age limit relaxable upto 5 years for Orthopaedically handicapped UR applicants ).
Position No. 7: Group IV (1), Scientist-B (Project Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation ); One post in the scale of Rs. 8,000-275-13,500 (Reserved for Hearing Handicapped (HH) Scheduled Tribe candidate)
a) Essential Qualification: First class M.Sc. Agriculture/ Plant Science or Ph.D. in one of these fields.
b) Desirable Qualification:
Ph.D. as above or first class M.Sc. with (i) Govt. recognized degree/ diploma in computer application with working experience in MS computer tools like Office and Foxpro applications etc.(ii) Experience in project planning/ budgeting/ monitoring / costing preferably in a scientific organization.
c) Job Requirement:
To assist Director/ Senior scientists in project planning, monitoring and evaluation (PME) activities through computer applications, to prepare plan documents and project reports, develop and maintain databases on various project information and economics of cultivation and handle S&T publications on medicinal and aromatic plants and preparation of Annual Report and News letter of the institute.
d) Age limit: 35 years ( Upper age limit relaxable upto 10 years for Hearing handicapped ST applicants ).
Position No. 8: Group IV (1), Scientist-B (Technology dissemination/ extension); One post in the scale of Rs. 8,000-275- 13,500 (Reserved for Visually Handicapped (VH) OBC candidate)
a) Essential Qualification: First class Masters degree in Agricultural Economics/Agricultural Extension /Communication /Rural Development/Management or Ph.D. in these areas.
b) Desirable Qualification: Ph.D. as above with working experience of computer application, technology dissemination, extension, communication, media interaction, etc.
c) Job Requirement:
Person selected will work in a team to disseminate medicinal and aromatic plants technologies among the farmers and entrepreneurs using conventional and modern tools/ methods and assist in institute’s interactive window with clients for technology dissemination and feed back management.
d) Age limit: 35 years ( Upper age limit relaxable upto 8 years for Visually handicapped OBC applicants).
Definitions of the Physically Handicapped Persons:
Visually handicapped persons are those who suffer from either of the following conditions:-
Total absence of sight.
Visually acuity not exceeding 6/60 or 20/200 (Snellen) in the better eye with correcting lenses.
Limitation of the field of vision subtending an angle of 20 degrees or worse.
Hearing handicapped persons are those in whom the sense of hearing is non-functional for ordinary purposes of life. They do not hear, understand sounds at all even with amplified speech. The cases included in this category will be those having hearing loss more than 90 decibels in the better ear (profound impairment) or total loss of hearing in both ears.
Orthopaedically handicapped are those who have a minimum of 40% of physical defect or deformity which causes an interference with the normal functioning of the bones, muscles and joints.
General Conditions:
All the posts carry usual allowances at the same rates as are admissible to the Central Government employees at the place of posting. Higher start may be given to exceptionally meritorious and deserving candidates.
Relaxation in age limit, qualification and/or experience in case of exceptionally meritorious candidates may be considered as per CSIR SR&AP Rules, 2001.
Persons employed in Government/Government undertakings/Autonomous bodies are required to submit their applications through proper channel and with a clear certificate that the applicant will be relieved in case of selection, within one month of receipt of offer of appointment.
Persons desirous to apply for more than one post may submit separate application for each post with separate application fee.
The selected persons should be ready to serve at any of the offices/Resource Centre of CIMAP located at Lucknow, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pantnagar, Purara (Distt. Bageshwar) or at any place of posting in India.
Upper age limit is relaxable as indicated against each post; in other cases relaxation only on approval by competent authority.
Relaxation in age limit up to five years may be allowed to the Council/Government/Autonomous Bodies/Public Sector employees in accordance with the instructions and order issued by the Government of India from time to time in this regard.
The upper age limit will be reckoned as on 31st May, 2007 which is relaxable as per Government orders in force from time to time in respect of ST/OBC/PH.
The period of experience in the requisite discipline/area of work wherever prescribed, shall be counted with effect from the date of acquiring the prescribed minimum educational qualifications required for the post.
The cut off date for determining the qualification and experience of a candidate will be the last date of receipt of applications.
The physically handicapped persons fulfilling the prescribed qualifications and experience are also encouraged to apply.
Mere fulfillment of essential educational qualifications &experience does not entitle a candidate to be called for Interview. The decision of CIMAP/CSIR in all matters relating to eligibility, acceptance or rejection of applications, mode of selection, conduct of interview will be final and binding on the candidates and no enquiry or correspondence will be entertained in this connection from any candidate or his/her agency.
Incomplete applications and applications not supported by attested copies of certificates of educational qualifications, experience certificate, community certificate, testimonials, list of publications, reprints and application fee are liable to be summarily rejected.
Canvassing in any form and bringing in influence political or otherwise will be treated as disqualification.
The Physically handicapped candidates who are orthopaedically handicapped and deaf are required to produce medical certificates in the prescribed form issued by the Competent Medical Authorities for the purpose of employment.

CIMAP, Lucknow- 226015, India by sending a self addressed envelop of 23x10 cms. Size, indicating number of Advertisement, Position No. and Name of the post applied for, affixing a postal stamp worth Rs. 10/- only by 15th May, 2007.
Applications on prescribed form duly completed in all respects alongwith a recent passport size photograph, attested copies of certificates of educational qualification, experience certificate, reprints of published papers, community certificate (in the case of SC/ST/OBC etc.) and application fee of Rs. 100/- only (no fee is payable by the candidates belonging to SC/ST community, Physically Handicapped persons and regular employees of CSIR) through an A/c payee Bank Draft of State Bank of India (SBI) with a six months validity, drawn at State Bank of India, Main Branch, Lucknow in favour of Director, Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Lucknow OR Director, CIMAP, Lucknow payable at Lucknow should be sent on or before 31st May, 2007.
