CSMCRI is a National laboratory under CSIR. The Institute undertakes a wide range of R & D projects in marine chemicals, coordination chemistry, catalytic transformations, membrane separation, solar thermal applications, marine algae, stress tolerant plants, and stress genomics. The institute has excellent infrastructure by way of sophisticated analytical instruments, modern laboratories, pilot plants, library, LAN network and workshop.

Scientist group- IV (3): 4 Posts (Unreserved)
X- Ray Crystallographer: The selected candidate will be responsible for the Institute Single Crystal X – ray Diffraction facility. The job includes maintenance, operation, solving structures and undertaking independent research.
Qualification and Experience: Ph. D. in Chemistry with 4 years research experience, including hands on experience in crystallization techniques, operation & maintenance of single crystal XRD machine, and solving of structures. Proven record of independent publications in the relevant area is essential.
Scientist – Catalysis: The selected candidate will undertake and supervise research on synthesis, characterization and applications of metal complexes and solid acid catalysts.
Qualification and Experience: Ph.D. in Chemistry with 4 years experience in synthesis of metal complexes, transition metal oxides, zeolites & clays, characterization of the materials using sophisticated analytical techniques, and catalytic applications including experience of working with high – pressure reactors. Candidates must evidence of research supervision and independent publications.
Organic Chemist: The selected candidate will work will closely with other laboratories in a multi – laboratory drug discovery programme and be responsible for plant collection, extract preparation, purification of bioactive fractions, isolation and characterization of active constituents, and related activities such as drafting of patent applications.
Qualification and Experience: Ph.D. Natural Product Chemistry with 4 years of active involvement in plant – based drug discovery research. Candidates must provide evidence of patents/ research publications in the area.
Scientists – Membrane Science: The selected candidate will be responsible for taking the Institute’s polymeric membrane technology to the field to cater to diverse societal and industrial needs besides promoting awareness. The candidates will also work on tailor making of membranes based on field experience and identification of specific requirements.
Qualification and Experience: Ph.D. (Chemistry) with 4 years experience of active involvement in membrane preparation and field activities. Candidates must also provide evidence of research publication/patents in the field activities. Candidates must also provide evidence of research publications/patents in the area of polymer – based membranes.
2. Scientist Group – IV (2): 3 Posts (Unreserved)
NMR Spectroscopist: The selected candidate will be responsible for the Institute’s NMR instruments which include a 500 MHz machine equipped with solid state probe and micro – imaging facility. The job will entail maintenance, operation, structure elucidation and research on new method development utilizing the full capabilities of the instruments.
Qualification and Experience: Ph.D. Chemistry with 1 year of relevant research experience. Only those possessing deep knowledge of principles and applications of NMR and hand on experience in modern NMR machines need apply.
Scientist – Inorganic Materials: The selected candidate will undertake research in the area of material science which would include synthesis, characterization and application of new inorganic materials of interest to the institute such as porous and layered materials, catalyst supports, thin films, inorganic fibres, and magnesium – based materials.
Qualification and Experience: Ph.D. in material Science/ Material Chemistry with 1 year of relevant research experience. Proven record of publications in reputed journals is essential.
Organic Chemist: The selected candidates will work on new innovative concepts that have a direct bearing on organic processes of industrial importance with the ultimate objective of developing greener technologies.
Qualification and Experience: Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry with minimum 1 year of experience in process – related research. Proven record of publications in reputed journals is essential.
Scientist Group – IV (1) : 1 Post (Unreserved)
Polymer Chemist: The candidate will work on design, synthesis, characterization and applications of speciality resins.
Qualification and Experience: First Class M.Sc. in polymer Chemistry. Experience in synthesis, characterization and application of speciality resins is desirable. Sound knowledge of Physical Chemistry is additionally desired.

The service in pensionable based on defined contribution under the “New Pension Scheme” as made applicable to Council employees w.e.f. 1.1.2004. However, persons selected from other Government Departments / Autonomous Bodies / Public Sector Undertakings / Central Universities having Pension Scheme on Gol pattern will continue to be governed by the existing Pension Scheme i.e. CCS (Pension) Rules, 1972.
All Scientists are entitled for Career Advancement on the basis of Flexible Complementary Scheme of CSIR.
All Scientists in Gr.IV (1) and above are eligible for Professional Update Allowance of Rs. 5000/- per annum. Further, all Scientists in Gr. IV (2) and above are also eligible for 2 Additional Increments (Without Dearness Allowance) in the grade.
The Director, CSMCRI, Bhavnagar reserves the right not to fill up any or all the posts, if he so decides.
Relaxation in age limit will be allowed to Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe / Other backward Class / Physically Handicapped and other notified categories as per the Govt. of India orders applicable from time to time.
The cut off date for determining the age, qualification & experience of a candidate will be the last date of receipt of applications.
Relaxation in age limit up to five years may be allowed to the Council/ Government / Autonomous Bodies/ Public Sector employees in accordance with the instructions and order issued by the Government of India from time to time in this regard.
Relaxation in age limit, qualification and / or experience in case of exceptionally meritorious candidates may be considered. Higher initial pay may be considered for exceptionally meritorious and deserving candidates.
Mere fulfillment of essential educational qualifications & experience does not entitle a candidate to be called for examination / interview. The decision of CSMCRI, in all matters relating to eligibility, acceptance or rejection of applications, mode of selection, conduct of interview will be final and binding on the candidates and no enquiry or correspondence will be entertained in this connection from any candidates or his/ her agency.
Applications from employees working in Government Departments, Public Sector Undertakings and Government funded Research Agencies will be considered only if forwarded through proper channel and with a clear certificate that the applicant will be relieved in case of selection within one month of receipt of offer of appointment.

The period of experience in the requisite discipline / area of work, wherever prescribed, shall be counted with effect from the acquiring the prescribed minimum educational qualifications required for the post.
