Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences (DIPAS)

Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences is a leading laboratory in physiology and biomedical research in the country. Primary mandate of the institute is the promoting human performance in extremes of environment such as high altitude, desert conditions etc with more than 60 scientists.

DIPAS has a very specialized infrastructure and has stale-of-art facilities to conduct studies from Man to Molecule in actual field conditions, using experimental animals, in vitro tissue and cell culture in laboratory.

Current programs include Studies on molecular mechanisms of acclimatization, neurophysiology, biochemistry, genetic engineering and ergonomics etc. The laboratory has an elaborate networking with the biomedical agencies and academia within the country and abroad.

Applications are invited for the post of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in a Project entitled "Effect of Antarctic Environment on Immune Response of Indian Expedition Members to Antarctica" under Science & Technology funded by DRDO, Ministry of Defence, Goverment of India for a period of four years.

The aim of the project is to determine the effect of extreme cold, isolation and stress factors on immune responses of the body in expedition members in Antarctica.

The Research Fellow will be required to go to Antarctica for a period of about 13 months to carry out the studies there during December 2003 to April 2010.

The research fellow will be receiving a fellowship of Rs.12000/- (Rs.twelve thousand only) per months for first two years and Rs.14000/- (Rs.Fourteen thousand) per month during third and fourth year.

In addition HRA will also be admissible as per the entitlement unless he/she is provided accommodation. He/She will be subjected to the administrative control and conditions as applicable to JRF/SRF and other rules and regulations on the subject of the Institute implementing the research project.

Aspirants should submit their applications on the given format (Appendix A) along with latest CV and photograph. Applicant should have passed M-Sc (minimum 60%) in Biotechnology/ Biochemistry.

Selected candidates will be registered for Ph.D. in Life Sciences.
