The Institute of Genomics & Integrative Biology (IGIB), one of the constituent Laboratories of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), is engaged in scientific and industrial research of national importance in its Delhi University (North) Campus as well as at its extension campus in South Delhi. It provides a unique environment for carrying out integrated experimental, informatics and computational biology research in human health related areas. In keeping with its focus on Genomics and Integrative Biology, the Institute is well equipped with stateof- the art instrumentation facility for Genomics, Proteomics and Biotechnological Research as well as a cluster of high end computing facility including a four Tera flop supercomputer. It has established a unique private-public partnership venture, The Center for Genomics Application (TCGA), for converting research into application.

The Institute invites applications from the Indian citizens who dare to dream of highest scientific accomplishments with strong research aptitude, proven record of scientific achievements for the following positions for ongoing as well as planned activities of the Institute:

Post No. 1. Scientist-C Group IV(2) : One post (unreserved) Biological Data base and Computer System Management

Scale: Rs. 10,000-325-15200 (i.e. Rs 25,850 p.m. approx. at the beginning of the scale)

Age limit: 35 years

Essential Qualifications: First class M.Sc./B.E./B.Tech in (Computer Science) /MCA or equivalent qualifications with minimum three years experience in relevant area or ME/M.Tech (Computer Science) with minimum two years experience in relevant areas. or Ph.D. (Science) with minimum 1 year of experience in relevant areas.

Desirable: Excellent knowledge of RAID, SANs and related products and networking technologies. Knowledge and experience of Disaster Recovery and data replication across SAN and site; multiple flavors of MPI on parallel environments; Workload management software in Linux clusters and SMP machines. Knowledge of open source products/ tools for all aspects of system administration, including backup, network and system monitoring, batch schedulers, cluster management will be an added advantage.

Job Requirement: The incumbent is expected to actively contribute in the ongoing R&D projects in the areas mentioned above and participate in planning and coordinating research activities which will complement/aid Institute’s approved programmes. The incumbent is expected to monitor, manage and develop applications on high performance computing environment. He is also expected to act as an enabler in deploying applications developed by co-researchers in the institute.

2) Post No. 2. Scientist B Group IV (1) Four posts (unreserved) Scale: Rs.8000-275-13500 (Total Emoluments Rs 20,900 p m approx. at the beginning of the scale)

Age limit: 35 years

For posts 2(i) & (ii): Bioinformatics and Systems Biology

Essential Qualifications: M.B.B.S. with demonstrated aptitude to do research.

Desirable: Hands on experience in computational biology or experimental molecular biology with proven record of scientific publications.

Job Requirement: Incumbent is expected to work in relevant areas under the supervision of senior scientists.

Post No. 2(iii): Population Genetics/Biostatistics/ Computational Biology

Essential Qualifications: PhD (Science).

Desirable: Research experience in the above areas with proven record of scientific publications.

Job Requirement: Incumbent is expected to work in relevant areas under the supervision of senior scientists.

For post 2(iv): Biological Data base and Computer System Management

Essential Qualifications: First class M.Sc./B.E/B.Tech OR M.Tech/M.E OR PhD (Science)

Desirable: Knowledge of network hardware technologies (Router, switches firewalls etc); ability to monitor and troubleshoot LAN/WAN and TCP/IP issues; must have exposure to managing Large Multilayered [layer 2 /layer 3] LAN infrastructure and VPNs. Knowledge of Oracle /MS-SQL / MySQL Server administration including installation, upgrades, configuration and maintenance

Job Requirement: Incumbent is expected to work in relevant areas under the supervision of senior scientists. Work involves Oracle /MS-SQL / MySQL Server administration including installation, upgrades, configuration and maintenance. Backup and Recovery options, import and export utilities; DTS, BCP, SQL Profiler, OLAP, ADO, replication, clustering Unix/Linux, and Windows Server platforms.

3) Post No. 3: Junior Technical Assistant: (Gr. III (1)) – Three Posts (UR-1, SC-1, OBC-1)

Scale of pay: Rs. 4,500-125-7,000

Age Limit: 28 Years

Essential Qualifications: 1st class B.Sc. OR 1st class B.C.A. or equivalent.

Desirable: 1. One year experience in handling/managing databases. 2. Excellent writing skills, understanding scientific documentation.

Job description: Incumbent is expected to actively assist and co-ordinate in planning and monitoring with respect to issues pertaining to various In-house and sponsored R&D projects and in the preparation of reports of various types of data required in decision making by the management time to time using computer packages/software/programmes.

Post No 3(ii): (Reserved for OBC)

Essential Qualifications: 1st class Bachelor’s degree in applied sciences with Instrumentation as a major subject/ 1st class Bachelor’s degree in Life Science with a post graduate diploma/degree in Biochemical and Molecular Biology.

Desirable: Minimum 1 year technical experience in a molecular biology/genomics laboratory.

Experience in working with sophisticated Instruments related to genomics activity like automated DNA sequencers, DHPLC, Flow cytometry, MALDI-TOF, Microscopes, Microarray etc. and certified course in computer.

Post No 3(iii): (Reserved for SC)

Essential Qualifications: 1st class Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent.

Desirable:1 year experience with knowledge of computer operation.

Benefits under Council Service:

1. These posts carry usual allowances i.e., Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), City Compensatory Allowance (CCA), Transport Allowance (TA) etc. as admissible to the Central Government employees stationed in Delhi and as madeapplicable to CSIR. Scientists are eligible for leased accommodation in Delhi..
2. All scientists are eligible for Professional Update Allowance of Rs. 5,000/- p.a.
3. In addition to, the emoluments indicated against each category of posts, benefits such as reimbursement of Medical Expenses, Leave Travel Concession, Conveyance Advance and House Building Advance are available as per rules of CSIR.
4. The selected candidates will be governed by the provisions of the New Pension Scheme as introduced by the GOI and as adopted by CSIR.
5. A Scientist can augment his income with earnings by way of honorarium/ Intellectual fees from consultancy/technical services and R&D sponsored project(s) undertaken by the laboratory.

Relaxations:

1. Age limit: Age should not exceed the limit prescribed for each category of post as on 30th June 2007 i.e. the closing date of receipt of the applications . Upper age limit is relaxable as per GOI orders in respect of SC/ST (5 years)/OBC (3 years). Relaxation of upper age limit for Physically handicapped and Ex-servicemen as per rules.

2. Age relaxation of 5 years is permissible for those working in CSIR/Govt./Autonomous Bodies/Public Sector Undertaking.

3. Relaxation of 5 years will also be permissible to those who had ordinarily been domiciled in the Kashmir division of the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from 1.1.1980 to 31.12.1989 subject to production of relevant certificate from concerned authority.

4. Relaxation of age limit, qualification and/or experience in case of exceptionally meritorious candidates may be permitted by the competent authority at any stage of Selection.

General Conditions / Information

1. Total emoluments payable will be at the minimum of the scale of pay inclusive of all allowances.
2. The qualifications prescribed should have been obtained through recognized Universities/Institutions.
3. The number of vacancies under each code is provisional and may vary.
4. The period of experience in a discipline/area of work, wherever prescribed, shall be counted after the date of acquiring the minimum prescribed educational qualification prescribed for that Group/Grade.
5. Applications from candidates working in Government Departments, autonomous bodies, Public Sector Undertakings and Government Funded Research Agencies will be considered only if forwarded through proper channel and with a clear certificate that the applicant will be relieved of his/her duties within one month of receipt of appointment order, if selected for the post applied for.
6. The candidate should clearly indicate in the application the post no. and the area of post under which he/she should be considered.
7. Candidates applying for more than one post should submit separate online application form for each post indicating the Code No. of the post. The hard copy(s) of each online application(s) should be accompanied by separate requisite fee.
8. The prescribed Essential Qualifications are a bare minimum and mere possession of same will not entitle the candidates to be called for interview. Where number of applications received in response to an advertisement is large, it may not be convenient or possible for the Laboratory to interview all the candidates. The Laboratory may restrict the number of candidates to be called for interview to a reasonable limit, on the basis of qualifications and experience higher than that of the minimum prescribed in the advertisement. The candidates should, therefore, furnish all the qualifications and experience possessed in the relevant field, over and above the minimum qualifications prescribed.
9. Higher initial pay could be considered for exceptionally meritorious candidates.
10. Outstation candidates called for interview will be paid to and fro single second class rail fare/ordinary bus fare from the normal place of their residence or that declared in the application or from the actual place of undertaking the journey, in India, whichever is nearer to the place of the interview as per rules.
11. Candidates of Indian origin settled abroad who are of proven merit as evidenced by their research work may be considered by the Selection Committee in absentia.
12. Details of short listed candidates to be called for interview will be displayed in the IGIB website, on finalization.
13. Incomplete application in any respect and applications received after the last date will summarily be rejected.
14. Canvassing in any form and/or bringing in any influence political or otherwise will be treated as a disqualification for the post.
15. The decision of the Director IGIB in all maters relating to eligibility, acceptance or rejection of applications, mode of selection, conduct of test/interview as per ‘CSIR Scientists Recruitment Rules, 2001’ and not to fill up all or any of the posts will be final and binding on the candidates and no enquiry or correspondence will be entertained in this connection from any individual or his/her agency.
